Laid to Rest | Military Service

I wasn't sure what exactly to expect for my Dad's (step dad technically, but he was my dad) military service. I was told that they are beautifully done and very honoring. When we got there the Cadillac holding Jim with the American flag covering his casket was leading in the line up. The amazing people at Tahoma National Cemetery lined us up in a procession with next of kin being right behind.
I was amazed at the line up of cars that arrived that early Friday AM to pay their respects and see Jim off.
As the procession began the service men and women saluted us as we drove. Now, I have never been saluted before in my life and I realize this is a symbol of respect but goodness it brought on the tears.
The ceremony was beautiful like many had told me it would. The drive to the shelter was heart wrenching, beautiful and eye opening. On our way we saw hundreds of headstones of those before who served with their lives. Jim was one of 12 that day to be buried. So many families affected with the loss of a loved one and so many who supported their loved one in their service to their country.

The sweet veteran man who is a chaplain all dressed in his Native Tribe garments spoke of love and the goodness of God and then the 21 deafening shots rang out. You know they are coming but they still pierce your inner self and your ears. It really was beautiful.
They wrapped up Jim's flag in the perfect triangle that we are all familiar with and as the gentleman approached my mom to hand it to her that's when all the emotions hit. Flood gates of tears, sobbing and some just silent.

We are sad that Jim can't be with us but we are happy he is with Jesus, without pain and enjoying eternity with His creator.

Here are some pictures from the military service:
